Fan fiction has grown in popularity over the years, as has the amount of content that fan fiction is created for. Today you can find fan fiction written about TV shows, movies, books, cartoons, anime, video games, card games, comics, manga or any other entertainment source you can think of. Due to the popularity of fan fiction, many websites that only generate fan fiction have popped up.
This has led to the need to sort chapters and series on your website. You can spend time organizing your posts and pages to make it easier for your visitors to navigate the site, but creating an easy-to-use archiving system for your visitors will help you build a fanfiction community with WordPress. Today I’m going to demonstrate how to create a fanfiction archive using WordPress.

Why use an archive instead of pages and posts?
One of the biggest questions you will ask yourself is the portrayal is your fanfic. There are many guides and tutorials on how to create fanfiction websites in WordPress, but to be honest most of them focus very much on the actual act of creating fanfiction and not the sorting. It’s important to have content based on popular series, to be believable in this universe and many other things, but that’s only half the battle. Creating a real website is just as important.
You need a navigation system that allows you to easily switch between series. For example, if you write Game of Thrones and Skyrim fanfiction, you need visitors to be able to find both series on your website. You can easily do this through archives, but don’t be fooled, you can still do it through posts and pages, although it’s more difficult.
How to create a fanfiction archive with WordPress
Today I’m going to demonstrate how to create a fanfiction archive using WordPress with the WriteShare plugin. This plugin is great for creating a fanfiction community as it allows visitors to register for accounts and create their own fanfiction. A very important tip is to make clear guidelines about what is and isn’t allowed. There is a very large amount of fan fiction that is very mature and you need to be clear about what type of content is allowed. If you’re okay with very adult and adult content, make sure you give visitors a fair warning. The last thing you want is for a kid to search for Dragon Ball Z and find an adult fanfic.
Let’s start by clicking Plugins and selecting Add New from the left admin panel .
Search for WriteShare in the available search box. This will bring up additional plugins that you may find helpful.
Scroll down until you find the WriteShare Writing Community Platform plugin, click the Install Now button and enable the plugin for use.

Click on WriteShare in the left admin panel and select the Settings option. This will bring up the main settings page.
This is a very simple settings page. The first option determines who can register on your site. Make sure this is checked or no one will be able to submit fanfiction. Remember that you can add trusted authors manually at a later time. If you want to have a community of fanfiction writers, they need to be able to contribute their own fanfiction. You must also check the next checkbox to give them author rights, or leave it unchecked if the first checkbox is unchecked. The Content Type Writing has many options, but you should choose the Fanfic option.
The last section is probably the most important section. You need to set up taxonomies for your new fanfic space, and if you’re not sure what taxonomies are, you’re essentially adding categories and tags. These help you organize your content. You can use the series the fan fiction is based on, length, genre, author, chapter, maturity level, and anything else you think would help when searching for fan fiction to make a clear distinction. Complete this section in the way that best suits your site.
Once you have added all your taxonomies and selected the settings you want, click the Save Changes button.
The plugin is now ready to use. Now you need to write or add some of your older fanfictions into your new system. Click on Fanfic in the left admin panel and select the Add New option. If for some reason you didn’t choose Fanfic as your writing type, you’ll find what you chose in its place.
You can write your fanfiction the same way any other post is created in WordPress. Just choose your appropriate taxonomies and remember that you can create more if you have forgot some. Click the publish button.

If you look at your published fanfic right away and can’t find it, don’t worry, it’s not vis yet possible. Unfortunately, most topics are not designed for fanfiction. From the left admin panel, click Appearance and select the Menus option.
Click the Custom Links drop-down box. Create a custom URL for your fanfiction like:
[ht_message mstyle=”info” title=”” show_icon=”” id=”” class=”” style=”” ]https://www . ggexample.com/Fanfiction/[/ht_message]
Call the link text fanfiction or something you can easily identify as such. Click the Add to Menu button.
You will now see fanfiction added to your menu items or whatever you just called it. Drag it to the desired position in your menu. When you are happy with the position, click the Save Menu option.
Congratulations, you can now display your fanfiction archives on your WordPress site. Just visit your website and select the fanfiction option in your menus. It takes you to the archive page and gives you a great navigation system. Of course, now you must actually build a community in order to use the site you’ve created.
Building your fanfiction community
There is no set guide to creating a thriving community. There are of course some very helpful and usually good guidelines to follow. You need good content on your website, but that’s probably already pretty obvious. Good content will attract regular readers, and more readers will lead to more fanfiction writers using your site. An equally obvious but much more difficult thing is to get your website known. Let’s face it, you’re not the first person to write fan fiction, and your site isn’t the first fan fiction site.
There are many techniques to increase the reach of your site, but this is the best promoting your website on social media. There are many great tools to help your marketing campaign, but you probably already know some popular fanfiction writers. Try sharing your site with them or another popular fanfiction gathering for faster results. Remember, as long as you put great content on popular series, you’ll get attention, but it may not be the quickest route to popularity.
