How um create a WordPress real estate website
This tutorial also works for other directory sites as you can easily add any form fields you need. It is loosely based on Formidable’s documentation for displaying real estate listings. (It’s also worth reading if you can find a moment.)
Step 1: Load the property listing form template
Formidable comes with a property listing form template. So this is a great place to start. The form template is fully customizable to your own specific needs and offers the usual features that an online property listing form would have.

Go to your Forms admin dashboard, click the Add New button and select the template on the home screen. Use the form shortcode to place this form on the page of your choice.
For this example, I’ll use the vanilla form template with no modifications.However, if you need additional fields or want to customize the layout so your real estate form fits perfectly on your website, now is the time.
Step 2: Create Your WordPress Listings Page
To list your real estate listings on your WordPress website, you need to create a view. This view displays the submitted properties in a grid and allows site visitors to click on them to see more details. First, go to Formidable → Views and select Add New.
Select Grid View as the view type. Then select your real estate listing form from the Use Entrys from Form drop-down list.
Give your new view a title. This won’t be visible on the website but is handy for reference. A meaningful title also makes your view easier to find when you have a lot of them.
Add content to the list view
This is where the real fun begins. After entering your initial properties, you can see how the layout and design will look and customize the content in your view.
Next, set up the page and form data in the grid and detail views. To create a grid, set the number of columns to 2 or 3. You may need to adapt this to suit your theme or use a table layout.
Click the link to start adding content. Use the field list in the sidebar to add field data to the view. Make sure to include a [detail link] like this example:

[address] [city], [state] [bedroom] bd / [bathroom] ba [ if sqft-living]/ [sqft-living] sq ft[/if sqft-living]
You probably want the automatic paragraphs, so open the Advanced Settings section and switch the content Filter to add paragraphs. Also add a Page Size while you’re there to add pagination to the listings.
All the HTML can be modified to suit your needs to make your property listings look accurate as you wish. You can also use the Visual Editor tab for your formatting. REMEMBER: Replace text like Photo Upload and List Price in the sample code with the IDs of your corresponding fields.
Step 3: Enter property details and enjoy!
Once your listing page is perfected, apply the same magic to your detail page. The detail page contains much more information about your property, the detailed property directory. If you have inserted a [detaillink] shortcode in the main content, you will see a toggle for the detail page.

Click Details Page and then Begin with the add content to add the content you want. Here is an example of what you might end up with:

You can even include a NextGen photo gallery to showcase the house properly.
Step 4: Publish the listing view
Save Finally, paste your view into a page using the Formidable Views block or the shortcode[display-frm-data id=x].
Tip on Troubleshooting: If your [detaillink] goes nowhere, go into your WordPress settings and save your permalinks.This is usually the culprit!
Bonus – Create a Featured Properties widget
A sidebar widget is a great way to highlight new or featured properties. This is also easy to do. You don’t need a WordPress real estate plugin to display a widget with listings.
Here are the steps:
- Go to Wonderful → Views and select Add New.
- Select Grid View and select your property listing form from the Use Entries From Form drop down.
- Give the new view a title and description for reference if you want.
It changes a bit here. This time you should not add the [detail link]. AND set the Limit to 1 if you want to randomly display a single feature list that’s different each time the page loads.
Design Tip: I personally prefer to display a random single listing. Showing all featured properties can make your sidebar or footer widget look cluttered and cluttered, especially when viewed on smaller screens.
As before, add content as needed. You can also add a link in Before Content or After Content to view all entries. Just above the view content, click Sort items and set the Order to Random.
Only include recommended items
Finally, add a filter in the Filter Entries section above. From the drop-down menu, select the desired check box is not equal to and leave the last field blank. That is, if the recommended field is empty, then don’t show it in the list.
Show the recommended listing on your page
Save your view and copy the shortcode for your view, i.e. [display-frm-data id=x]. Go to Appearance → Widgets and drag a Text widget to your sidebar. Paste your view shortcode into the text widget and save your widget.
Now your widget will display your featured properties!
