Hyperlinks, or simply links, are at the heart of the internet. They allow you to instantly switch between different places on the web or, for example, start a call by clicking on a phone number. Nowadays, links are not only limited to websites, but are also common in email communication. In this article, I’ll show you how to enrich your email signature with different types of links.
Why links are used in your signature
An email signature is a perfect carrier of your contact details. Adding a website, blog, or social media links to an email signature gives your recipients easy access to these resources. This makes signatures more interactive and… more attractive.

In addition, you can now use other link types that can facilitate communication between you and your recipients, e.g. ones that allow your recipients to contact you directly by phone or instant messenger.
In general, hyperlinks are an essential element of modern email signatures. With them you can keep up to date with the latest trends and ensure effective and fruitful communication.
How to use links in your signature
In this section I will show you how to add different link types to your email signature. Each type serves a different purpose, but in the end it all boils down to making your communication more convenient for your recipients.
How to insert a link to a website
It’s easy A faster and free entry is to use our signature generator. Once you’ve selected a template, you can easily add a link to your website by entering its address in the Website field of the Company Info section. The change is reflected in the preview and the link is preformatted to match the signature template’s color theme. You can also test your link right away.
If you need more personalization options, copy your signature template from the generator by clicking Apply Signature (see screenshot above) and Copy. Below the Copy button are detailed instructions on how to paste the template into your email client’s editor.
In the examples below I’m using Outlook 365, but you should just use it Do understand how to do it in other email clients as the procedures are quite similar.

Back to basics (and Outlook 365) if you simply want to change the formatting of your link (eg. (e.g. color, apply bold, etc.), highlight your website address and use one of the options available in Outlook’s Notepad. You can format each link in your email signature the same way.
If you want your recipients to use a phrase instead of just seeing your website address (e.g. Visit our website) that appears, you must first delete your website address from the signature. Next, enter and highlight the sentence to be linked. Finally, click the Add a hyperlink button (#2 in the screenshot below), enter your website address in the dialog box that opens and click OK . Save your signature template and close Outlook’s signature editor.
Note that Outlook’s editor changes the formatting of the link to the default formatting (blue font with underline applied). Finally, to customize the appearance of your linked phrase to your needs, highlight it and use the formatting tools shown in the previous screenshot above.
If you need to insert more links, just move your cursor to a place where a link appears to be inserted, click the add hyperlink button and fill in all the details (address, text to be displayed). It’s that simple.
How to use additional link types
In addition to standard website hyperlinks, you can use special link types that point to a phone number, email address or an instant messenger apartment Such links are very useful – once clicked or tapped, they automatically redirect your recipients to a dedicated app where relevant contact information is pasted by you. For example, when someone clicks a link to your email address, their default email client will open and your email address will be inserted into the To field. Or when a recipient clicks a link to your phone number, a phone app opens and dials your phone number. This is especially useful if your recipient is reading emails on their mobile phone.
To use this type of link, prepare your signature template in our free email signature generator, then copy and paste it paste it into the signature editor of your email client (e.g. Outlook 365 as shown in the previous section).
Create a link to an email address
Signature editors of the most common email clients (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Outlook.com, Gmail.com) usually use intelligent functions to automatically convert the email address in your signature into a link to convert your email address.However, if your customer does not offer such smart solutions or does not use them for any reason, continue with the instructions below.
Mark your email address and click the add link button . Next, select Email Address on the left and in the Email Address field, type mailto: followed immediately by your email address. Optionally, you can specify a phrase that will be associated with your email address by changing the text in the Text to display field. Finally, click OK, save your signature template and close the signature editor.
This is the simplest version of the e- Mail Hyperlinks. However, there are many more possibilities (e.g. you can add a predefined email text). Read this article to learn more.
Create a link to a phone number
Creating a phone link is quite similar to an email link. After highlighting the phone number in your signature and clicking the paste link button, you need to select Existing file or web page on the left and tel: immediately followed by your phone number. Remember to precede your phone number with the plus sign (+) and your country code. This way, your recipients can reach you by phone no matter what country they are calling you from.
Examples of other useful link types
Besides the most popular mailto: and tel: link types, there are also a number of others, e.g. callto: initiates a Skype call or sms: allows your Recipients to go straight to their SMS app to send you a text message. How to add a link to an image
If your email signature template includes a photo or other graphic element, you can also add a link to it. For example, if your recipient clicks on your banner, they’ll be taken to your special offer landing page.
The easiest way to link an image in a signature template you choose is to use the graphics in our free email signature generator. Once there, you must enter your link(s) in the …link to field(s). This turns the images into linked, clickable items.
Alternatively, you can add a link to a graphical element in your email client’s editor. This is similar to adding a simple link to text. Once your template has been copied into the editor, highlight your graphic element and click the add links button (#2 in the screenshot below). Enter the destination address in the dialog box that opens. Finally, save your changes and close the editor.
It’s not the end of the story
These are just the basics. If you’re interested in HTML (the language of modern signature templates), there’s a lot more you can do with links. For example, you can download a selected template from mail-signatures.com, manually change each element of the hyperlink code, and insert the fully customized template into your email client.
