How to Create a Windows Desktop Shortcut to a Website

There are many ways to make accessing your favorite websites more convenient, e.g. B. Bookmarks. If you only have a few websites that you visit regularly, creating a desktop shortcut might be an option. A desktop shortcut gives you a quick and convenient way to access a specific URL using your default browser. This can work particularly well for accessing browser-based applications and those with an offline option like Gmail.

If you haven’t remembered it, start by copying the URL of the website you want to bookmark. Either right-click in the address bar and click Copy, or highlight the address and use the Ctrl C shortcut.

Next, minimize your windows so you can only see the desktop. You can use the Windows key m shortcut to quickly minimize everything at once.

Right-click anywhere on the desktop. From this menu, go to New and then select Shortcut.

This will open the shortcut creation window. Just paste the copied address into the space provided. You can right-click in the field and select Paste or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl p. Then click Next.

Now it’s time to label your shortcut. We recommend that you do not use the default name “new internet shortcut”. Instead, make it more specific, e.g. B. “Gmail” or “QuickBooks online” or “Valiant KBs” and remember that some longer names will be truncated if not selected. You can always change the name later.

Click “Finish” and your shortcut will appear on your desktop. The icon is that of your default browser. Just double click when you want to use it.
