Create an explosion

1. There are several ways to create a new email:

  • Click on the Communication tab to go to your list of senders to get. Click the New email blast button on the right side of the page.

2. Enter a Name (The Slug will be created automatically based on filled in the name, but you can change the slug if you want). Optionally, leave a short description or a note in the Description text box.

3. If you include links to your website in your blast, you should check the box provided. When this option is enabled, forms on your website will be auto-populated with email information from the recipient’s profile. This could increase the number of people who fill out the form, but could cause confusion if the email is forwarded to a different recipient.

For example, you send an email with a link to the online petition your site. When Jane Doe opens your email and clicks the link to sign the petition, her email address field on the form is already filled out. All she has to do is enter her name and click “Sign Petition” to complete the action.

4. If you want to copy content from a drafted or sent mailing, you can use the β€œCopy from previous blast” drop-down menu.

5. Click Create and Edit Email Blast. You will be taken to the Theme section of your blast.

Select a theme

Under Theme you can choose from a selection available stock themes. Choose a theme by hovering over the thumbnail and clicking Use theme. This will save your chosen theme and take you to the body section of your email.

You can go to the Design select a different design at any time. See below for how to create a custom theme.

When composing a new email, note that the last used theme for the respective sender is automatically selected.

Create or delete a custom theme

If you don’t want to use a default theme, you can create your own custom theme.

Under Choose on the tab Communication your Broadcaster and click the New Custom Theme button under the Custom Themes

1. Name your custom theme. Check the “Clone your current theme” checkbox to use your current stock theme as the base template.

2. Click the Create Theme button.

3. You will be taken to the HTML editor where you can make changes to the template. Learn more about Liquid in NationBuilder templates.

4. Click Save & Publish to publish your new design. Click Save Draft to remove any changes you made.

You can use your saved custom theme for future email blasts. When creating a new email, go to Design > Custom Designs.

All previously created custom themes will be listed. To use one of your previously created themes, click Switch to next to the name of the one you want.

Once you’ve selected your theme, you’ll be taken to the “Body”. Section of your email blast.

To delete a custom theme:

1. Under E -Mail b>, select Custom Themes.

2. Select the Edit button next to the theme you want to remove and you will be redirected to the custom email Theme > Current custom theme > Settings.

Enter and preview content

To enter content and images for your email blast, click on the Content tab of your blast.

You can upload image files by clicking + Add > Click.

πŸ“Œ Note: If you want to attach additional files, e.g. a .pdf file, we recommend saving these files to a cloud storage service such as Dropbox or Google Drive and linking these files in your explosion. We do not support file attachments in email blasts as these file types tend to be larger, increasing your chances of triggering spam filters and preventing your blast from reaching your recipients.

1 . You can also add buttons to email blasts. To do this, click + Add > button. Buttons are fully customizable by you to set size, color, call to action, link (to URL), etc.

2. Personalize your explosion with smart panels.This allows you to retrieve information from someone’s profile, including:

  • Name

  • Address

  • Phone number

  • Donation information

  • Membership Information

  • Contact

  • Public Profile

2. When you save your content, the preview will refresh and update with your changes. Note that you can preview in regular desktop email format, mobile format, and text format by clicking the appropriate button.

Send yourself a test email before sending your blast. Click Send test email and enter the email address(es) in the text box. Press Send test email.

πŸ“Œ Note: You cannot send a test email during the trial period. At the top right of your control panel, navigate to Contacts & Billing > Schedule to exit trial mode.

When you’re done, click Save and continue.

Add recipients

Select recipients for Your blast out.

1. Decide whether to send this email to supporters or prospects based on your recipients’ support status. Take a moment to learn more about emailing prospects and how it can affect your email deliverability.

2. Select recipients based on a list, tag, or saved filter. For example, you can add the subscribers to your weekly newsletter by adding all supporters with the tag “weekly newsletter”. Alternatively, you can select “All” and select all supporters in your country or all interested parties. Remember, it’s a good practice to segment your email list to improve your email deliverability.

3. Click Update Recipients to save your selection and Save and Continue to be moved to the Review and Send section.

Review and send your email

Before you send or schedule your email, you can review the details of your email blast – including its appearance, recipient list, and content. If you need to make changes, you can go back to the appropriate tab and make changes.

Click Send email to XX people now to send your email right away . This button always shows the number of recipients. If you don’t see the option to send your email, check if you’re still in your trial. Email Blasting is only available when your nation is out of the process.

Once you’ve sent your email, view the results by going to the Recipients or Dashboard sections of your blast.

Schedule your email

If you schedule your email for a later date schedule, click Schedule.

A pop-up window will appear. Choose a date and time. The delivery must be scheduled at least one hour in the future. Click Schedule to confirm.

Click the gray date/time button to adjust the scheduled time. Enter a new date or time and click Schedule to save your changes.

Click Unschedule to cancel your explosion. A pop-up window will ask you to confirm that you want to unschedule emails. Click Yes. View all scheduled emails by going to [Broadcaster] > Email > Scheduled.

Clone Blast

Cloning an email blast allows you to create a new blast that is a copy of the entire content of a sent or draft blast – including the settings, Files and of the theme , and content.

You can clone an explosion in two places:

  • To create a copy of an explosion you are editing , click the Settings tab. Then click the Clone this email button and you will be redirected to the new mailing page with this mailing slug already selected.

  • When you create a new blast at the bottom of the settings step, click the Clone from previous blast.

Once you have created your new email, you will see that all the settings, files, themes and content have been cloned.
